Jesus Wants to Make You a Millionaire - Call to Worship
Luke Morton introduced me to a poet up in Oregon by the name of Robert Bruce (not Robert the Bruce for all you Braveheart fans). He runs a site called knifegunpen where you can check-out his work. I used one of his poems entitled, Jesus Wants to Make You a Millionaire, that you can download in a special jpg version on his site.
As a church, Kaleo is going through the book of Acts, and this week we were in chapter 8 dealing with Simon the Magician (apparently he attended Hogwarts Academy or something). Anyway, I try to tailor the Calls to Worship thematically to focus in on the message. This has become a really powerful time of worship for our congregation. Takes a little creativity and time to work through it, but I think it is worth it. Enjoy the poem. And if you're reading this Robert, thanks bro.
Call to Worship - The Great Co-mission
Minister: What is the great and first commandment?
People: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and
with all your soul, and with all your mind.
Minister: What is the second commandment like it?
People: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Minister: What does this mean?
People: Love is the fulfilling of the law.
Minister: To what does this call us?
People: To a life of faith working through love.
- as summarized in Matthew 22:37-40
Call to Worship - 3
Leader: Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty!
People: Just and true are your ways, King of the ages.
Leader: Who will not fear you, O Lord, and bring glory to your name?
People: For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you!
- Revelation 15:3-4
Call to Worship - 2
Minister: It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High.
People: to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.
Minister: to the music of the ten stringed lyre, and the melody of the harp.
People: For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands.
Minister: How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts!
People: You, O LORD, are exalted forever.
- from Psalm 22:22; 97:12; 145:1-3
Call To Worship - 1
Leader: Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
People: He remembers his covenant forever; the word he commanded, for a thousand generations.
Leader: Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.
People: That they might keep his precepts and observe his laws. Praise the Lord.
