Worship and Culture

The link between worship and culture is always a tricky one. Came across this simple, but very good summary on Ron Man's Worship Resource site. It is from the Lutheran World Federation's "Nairobi Statement on Worship and Culture".

Christian Worship Relates to Culture in at least four ways:

First, it is Transcultural

the same substance for everyone, everywhere, beyond culture

Second, it is Contextual

varying according to the local situation

Third, it is Counter-cultural

challenging what is counter to the Gospel in a particular culture

Fourth, it is Cross-cultural

making possible sharing across different cultures
